Meet the team

Our Founder and CEO, Jimmy Michel, is a dedicated Haitian activist who came of age amid the harsh realities of violence and hunger in Haiti during the tumultuous 90s, following the coup d’état that ousted Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 1991. Raised by a single mother during this challenging period, Jimmy faced the stark reality of hunger and violence and was even unable to attend school for a three year period. Despite the persistent threat of violence and instability upon his return to school Jimmy initiated his activism journey. Bravely defending Lycee Henry Christophe of Diquini Carrefour Public High School armed only with rocks and courage, he rallied his classmates to unite in the defense of their school, preventing it from being attacked and burned. From that moment on, Jimmy continued to attend protests and advocate for the Haitian people.

Today, Jimmy remains steadfast in his unwavering commitment to the fight for justice and empowerment. Having personally experienced the pain and suffering endured by the Haitian people, Jimmy is intimately familiar with the challenges they continue to face. From a young age, he harbored a deep-seated desire to uplift his people and alleviate the ongoing suffering that persists in Haiti.

Our co-founder and COO, April Roscoe, is a Jewish American who comes from a small mountain town in upstate NY. April’s passion for helping others has been an intrinsic part of her since childhood, a heartfelt longing that has guided her journey. Two decades ago, April embarked on a path that led her beyond the borders of her small town. Along this journey, she crossed paths with Jimmy, and together, they brought to life Alo Ayiti. April’s dedication to making a positive impact and her unwavering commitment to uplifting communities have been instrumental in shaping the compassionate ethos of Alo Ayiti. Her story is a testament to the power of individuals with a shared purpose coming together to make a meaningful difference in the world.
